See this post on this blog before you make a decision. I was very hesitant about buying one of these Fires, even at $35. I kind of wish I'd gotten a generic tablet, such as described in the blog post, instead. *for a 10 year old who is not going to read on it*

If you want a Kindle tablet for reading, the Fire HD 6 for $59 (Special price today) is a MUCH better device than the cheapest $49 Fire.

If you want an 8" tablet, I like the looks of this Lenovo. (Currently $99). Although we have quite a few Fires in the house, I don't know that I'll get any more. I like open Android better.
