Consider a boxed set or a complete works or indeed a bible

With a two-level or multilevel table of contents you first see just entries for each book, either just one or perhaps introduction text and afterword

So

Genesis
Exodus

When you click on one of these you see entries for each chapter or section and (for a Bible) you may be able to enter the verse.

If the book indices are not done this way for a 'complete works' of twenty books or collections with say twenty-five chapters or stories each there will be 500 lines in the table of contents which you have to page through to find a book.
