I am not sure what you mean by the "gradient". I suspect that you mean the wood texture and the shadows. Regardless, the answer is no. You can choose between 4 different wood colors to see if one of them suits you better. (Settings / Covers and Thumbnails / Cover view: shelf material)

CC should have asked you if you want to keep that "button" after the grouping drawer was opened a few times. It is easy to ignore the message. In any event, you can add or remove it in (Settings / Customize the book list / Show grouping drawer buttons) or in (Settings / Customize the cover grid / Show grouping drawer buttons)
