New Comixology app update allows merging of Amazon account
The update appeared for iOS this morning, and it offers the ability to merge accounts (permanently), which adds some of the comic books purchased from Amazon to be read with the Comixology app as well as the Kindle app. The Comixology app has more features to control the presentation, and automatically organizes into series, so this is a welcome and long-awaited development.
The update is also available in Amazon Appstore and Google Play. For the two other people who have installed it, I must report that the Comics Fire Phone app has not been updated. I think it requires a 'special' version because the app wants to use swipe from bottom to reveal controls, and on Fire Phone that is a system gesture.
This only seems to apply to books that supported 'guided view' in the kindle app, not those which were in mobi format.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to add samples that are added to your Kindle Library. I'll be sending them some feedback about that. They would also benefit (on iOS) by adding the ability to browse the Comixology store and download samples from there, just as you can with the Kindle app (weirdly that in-app storefront does not include a category for Comics).
I'm also not sure this is a two-way street: do things you got from Comixology go into your Kindle library? And thus (potentially) let you read on Kindles as well as mobile devices? And sync between devices? That's how it works with Audible at least.
I don't know this works with Kindle Unlimited borrows yet, probably not. Maybe they can only add things that exist in Comixology store. But that would be another enhancement they could make (KU support).
