No, Koreader can be started in other ways. But, KSM is probably the best method.

That says it will work on any Kobo ereader that is running firmware later than 2.6.0. That was released in June 2013. 3.18.0 is the current firmware and has been released for all devices since from the Touch on.
There is slight chance that it won't work on the Touch 2, but that is simply because no one has reported that it works. If it doesn't, it will probably be because the screen parameters will need to be adjusted to suit.
