Sorry for the misunderstanding, I am not native, and from what I read, I thought that side-loading was "everything except books bought from the official store".

If you are willing to write code, then the Kobo is probably the simplest. It is running Linux, doesn't need to be jailbroken and there are lots of different mods available. It can also run Koreader. It has some syncing but I don't know if it will do what you want.

Koreader seems promising with its Evernote integration, if I can install it on Kobo for sure, I will give it a try
From what I see, Koreader needs KSM, and I was not sure KSM is compatible with all Kobo devices (they say FW 2.6.0 to 3.18.0 on
this thread)
