Please be gentle with me, I have never had a tablet so I really really know NOTHING about how to work them or anything at all about them. I did figure out how to turn the Fire on, that's about it!!

If you have Wi-Fi, that's about all you need. though some people have trouble developing the right touch for using the touch screen. If that's a problem a stylus may help.
When I got my first (Fire 2) Fire I only had dial up and discovering that the Fire's help and user guide were unavailable unless you were connected was annoying and caused me to spend several long sessions in the library until I got things clear, but I got on well enough (mainly books and podcasts) between December 2012 when I got my Fire and July 2013 when I installed broadband with Wi-Fi.
