Understood and I tend to agree with your logic. Especially as I have a history of breaking software and devices; apparently I have unique usage patterns.
If you have any suggestions of something else I can log or examine, I'd be happy to go exploring. I am quite comfortable at Unix-ish command lines.
This issue is clearly something related to networking.
This PW2 was rooted right after I purchased it, I accidentally did a factory reset so needed to go through the whole process again. I suppose I could repeat that process but this does not seem to warrant that. Originally, this device was registered, after (my erroneous) reset, I just faked the registration.
One oddity now is that there is no "swipe to clear screen saver screen" like I remember from before. With the Kindle off there is a screen saver image. As soon as I power it on, it shows the book I am reading. This may be an artifact of me installing and removing the screen saver hack but I figured I would mention it.
