getting back your performance.

I have an iPad 2 32G Wi-Fi system that I got when they were new, many years ago. After many iOS upgrades and many app upgrades I was getting to the point that I would have to launch some apps multiple times to make them take and was removing apps to maintain a minimum amount of storage space of about 1G. The upgrades of apps wouldn't always take, I had to try multiple times. I was blaming it on the upgrades and as it turns out this was partially true but it can be fixed.

My son works for Apple and he suggested I needed to reset and restore my unit. I followed his advice and it is now back to practically new. Here is what I did (a process that will take many hours so block off some time).

1. I plugged my unit into my PC and kept it plugged in.
2. I backed up my entire system using iTunes on my Windows machine.
3. I did a full cold reset of the device like I was selling it or something.
4. After its reboot it offered a choice to restore my system which I accepted.
5. After a long wait my system came back alive. For some reason, even with the backup some apps still needed to be updated (about 2 dozen). I updated them which went much smoother than it had before the upgrade.
6. I gained about 7G of free memory! and now my apps start quickly, upgrades are quick and simple, and I am enjoying my new iPad (well not really new but you get the idea).
7. You may need reenable find my phone if you had it before.

Evidently Apple garbage collection to manage memory is poor or non-existent.

I hope this will help some of you.
