Ah. I missed that this was Kindle, and mentally assumed iBooks. My bad. You're right. Kindlegen is a disaster and a half, and I'm being generous.

Their rate of churn is actually a problem from my perspective. Every time they change something, they seem to introduce major behavior changes while fixing minor bugs. I stopped adopting kindlegen updates a long time ago, because each update caused me to waste two or three days tweaking my toolchain's output so that kindlegen would spit out sensible code that would work reasonably on KF7 devices again.
