In the world of books the chances of getting a traditional (big 5) publisher are about 1 million and a half to one. I am probably be generous.
If you want to self publish, your odds of making money are about a million to one. Your odds will go up slightly if you are willing to work 15-18 hours a day, 7 days a week, know where your strengths and weaknesses lie and at the very minimum pay for a proofreader.

Seriously if you want to make it in the publishing world, I would highly recommend 2 blogs.
JA Konrath's self publishing and Russell Blake's.
His latest blog was wonderful.
