The only reason i discounted it was because there were a number of negative reviews regarding it's functionality/stability. I have to hard reset my sony every 4-5 times i turn it on, some reviews mentioned similar problems with the kobo.

Experiences vary, but it seems to be a fact that Kobos are less stable than Kindles.
Not everyone has issues, and I imagine it depends on what you do with it.

), collections management is kind of worth it...

But hey, you've got a Kindle already, give it a whirl and see how well plugboards do for you. Many people swear by them. As a replacement for collections!
