Two recurrent issues of this type that always irk me are "Pearl Harbour" in British books about WWII and references to the "Labor Party" in American news media. I'm an equal opportunity offendee.
I suspect it's as much editorial as opposed to authorial, though; a (poor) choice regarding the preferences of the domestic market. Because readers are such dopes, y'know.
