This is the best of reasons to **not** change your device's serial number.

Of all possible serial numbers:
  1. Amazon knows which ones they have used, others will not work.
  2. Of the serial numbers used, some have been reported and blacklisted, those will not work.
  3. Of the remaining serial numbers, they each represent (someone else's) working Kindle.
    Try to use one of those and **both** devices will become blacklisted.
    Amazon is very actively "watching" each and every Kindle (they are each part of their Marketing, Data Mining, operations).

Note that point 3 above could be used as a DoS (Denial of Service) attack on all working Kindles.
Something which is illegal.
