I might apply for the Chase Freedom Visa card for holiday shopping; the introductory perks and the 10 percent at Amazon are very tempting!
Several years ago discover moved to a "sign up for the special rebate" thing. They have 1 percent cash back on everything else. You have to go in every month for the monthly ones (and they aren't every month if I recall correctly) and once a quarter for the others. They also offer some good gift cards. I save my Discover rebate thing and get a 50 dollars Lowe's card for 45. There are other gift card deals like that but I always get that one. There are some newer cards that do not offer the extra rebates (they are some kind of special other deal type of card and I don't have one. My mom does. She has completely different non-signup deals, but my deals are better). I say that because not every card they issue is the same.
