Recommendation for picky ereader buyer

I'd like to purchase a new eReader, having previously owned a Sony Reader and a Kindle. I enjoyed both, and was quite happy with each.

Here are my needs/requirements:

I want to be able to use Calibre easily with the device. I don't care about doing anything on the device beyond reading books. I did enjoy the wi-fi on the Kindle, but its not a necessity. I don't care about backlighting, though I appreciate it-- I have no use for bells and whistles I would find in a tablet. Preferably, I'd like it to be fairly straightforward-- just an ereader.

I do not want to deal with ads, and am seriously upset that ads are even a thing on ereaders.

There will be a mix of purchased, self-created, and [Phrase deleted - MODERATOR] content on the device.

I don't wish to have to jailbreak a device. I'm amazed these simple requirements are so difficult to satisfy, please help!
