We've got an external modem/router. From what I've read you need a better, more expensive NAS for Chromecast, because it needs the power to convert any formats the Chromecast doesn't do native. Those are at least €300 instead of the €150 for a simple NAS.

For now I'm going to buy an extra external HDD for my media and switch off sleep mode when I want to stream. That way, when I go somewhere where there is no or slow internet I can hook up the external HDD to my small mediaplayer.
