Looking at the threads on XDA Developers, it looks like the Fire HD 6 & Fire HD 7 have been rooted. However, the HD 8 and HD 10 have
not been rooted yet.
So you have this:
- Fire ($50 tablet): Rootable
- Fire HD 6: Rootable
- Fire HD 7: Rootable
- Fire HD 8: Not currently rootable
- Fire HD 10: Not currently rootable
Although it's not currently rootable, the current $30 off the HD 10 is very tempting. That makes it $199 for a 10" tablet with an SD card slot! I may still pass though, cause I hate Fire OS with a passion. Amazon seems to have a talent for making Android suck in their fork.

This tablet with CyanogenMod on it would be awesome though.
