Primarily because of the resolution. The HD6 = 1280x800 (252ppi) vs Fire 7 = 1024x600 (171ppi). When used for reading, the text on the HD6 will be much sharper than the Fire 7. Size is another plus for me. The HD6 is smaller and easier to hold one handed. And the last big plus for the HD6 is the warranty. It's one year and the Fire 7 is only 90 days. It'll cost an extra $12 to bump it up to a year.

The Fire 7 has two advantages - price and storage. The F7 is half the cost of the HD6 ($50 vs $100). And the F7 has a mSD card slot for extra storage, whereas the HD6 does not.
