Yes, that was a bug two or three years ago. I remember trying to work out what was happening while I was visiting the in-laws at Christmas. As GeoffR said, Kobo fixed it in the next firmware. I haven't seen that reported since.
This doesn't feel like that. The OP's report was after restarting the device. That usually means an error in the database, but that doesn't feel right. The sleep problem that PeterT reported also doesn't fit that. It doesn't look to me like the device is reloading the book after a sleep. If it was, that could explain it.
The "back a few pages" does occur in another place. If you use the navigation bar to change page (tap the slider or the double arrow to go to another chapter) and then press the return button, it takes you back to the beginning of the Adobe page. So, depending on the font size and other settings, you might need to tap a few times to get back were you were. If something else was triggering this, then the described behaviour sounds about right.
