I think I had the same problem. In my case it was due to I try to connect to the computer when I had an open book in the Iliad.
So
1.- Turn on the liad.
2.-Press the "device manager" key (2nd from the top in the left upper corner). The device manager window appears in the Iliad display.
2.-Connect it with the computer (previously you must have installed the Iliad software in it).
3.-Then autmotically appear in the Iliad screen a message "connectedt to PC" o something like that.
