It sounds like your needs as stated here are fairly basic, in which case you're likely to be happy with whatever you pick up.

Are you keen on any particular ecosystem features, like Whispersync, or syncing sideloaded books between devices (eg ereader with phone)?

Do you have any opinions about fonts and display - i.e. are the basic Kindle options going to be fine for your eyeballs, or would you like finer control?

Do you care about having Calibre manage your collections (a) because it's easier in the first place and/or (b) because they can be readily restored from backup in case of a broken/stolen/lost device or factory reset? Or are you not a heavy collections user and therefore not bothered?

Do you have access to all devices locally, or have no issues with mail ordering?

(With the ghosting and refresh - all my devices have customisable refresh, so you can choose what suits you best. I'm not sure about how Nook or Kindle handles it, except that ghosting tends to be less of an issue on newer devices anyhow.)
