I will also add one more. I use a library management custom column for things like if it's read, where I purchased it, noting if all metadata has been reviewed or my preferences, noting if the book entry is missing as I create entries prior to purchase as a sort of "to get" list.
I make this a tag style column. You can simply add a tag that says something like FAV. You can also then search on that tag or make a virtual library which would automatically list all book tagged as FAV. And, if you'd like an icon or color based off that tag in addition, you can do as Joanna noted above.
