There's no good reason for them to be. If NOOK stopped serving its books right now, the only thing I would lose is potential updates to old books, which would put me in exactly the same place as I am with Kobo right now. If I knew for a fact that NOOK was going under tomorrow, I would buy books from them today.

I had a lot of books at Books on Board, too. I still have all of them.

That's specifically why I don't buy books from any service with unhacked DRM. If iTunes went out of business and I had books there, I'd be totally fracked.
