I've been using the DPT-S1 like you're suggesting you would and I think it's good for that purpose. The latency in writing is practically negligible. The latency of page-flips, depending on the complexity (per page size) of the document is on par with what I know from e-readers in general, i.e. doesn't come close to the intuitivity of real paper but is o.k. after some getting used to. The latency of annotations and other UI-heavy interactions is such that you would not want to base your workflow on it. Overall, I find the device sufficiently responsive in single-mode operation (i.e. either writing or reading) but not a suitable replacement for parallel workflow (i.e. reading a paper and writing in an empty notebook) because the switch between different "tabs" is too slow.

The durability of the screen is good. I've been using the device extensively for half a year and haven't noticed any traces of wear on the screen (whereas the furnish of the casing slowly starts to peel off, which, however, isn't a big problem given its durable aluminium body). The durability of the pen... Well, I just lost mine to a drop on the floor, R.I.P., but if you're not as clumsy as me, you'll be happy with it. 20 pages of writing per week, I suppose you will end up replacing a nib every 2.5 to 3.5 months.

Overall, I can suggest the device as a general paper-and-pen replacement, though you will have to buy multiple DPT-S1 (or resort to additional real paper) if you're doing work which requires 2 physical pages open at the same time (as described above).

I should perhaps add that I've been using a device like that (the Onyx M92 before that) for a longer time and thus already got used to the writing on the screen. It may not be precisely true that the latency is negligible in all cases! For example, for "scratch" work, shuffling formulas, trying out different things I still have to use actual paper! Only for writing things in clear I feel comfortable using the DPT-S1, in which case I really thing the latency is not a hindrance.

FWIW, I think, if you have the possibility, you could perhaps try out the device in real life at a store (or order it and return it if you're unhappy with it) because I'm afraid my (and everyone else's) opinion concerning what's okay and what's not is always biased
