@dcpyke - tags are stored in the database (metadata.db) in the library folder. Restore database probably wont work, its purpose is to Recover a broken/corrupt database - it uses the metadata.opf files you'll see in the book folders - that's their only purpose.

Your changes were legitimate so the changes to metadata.db file would have also been written to the individual book metadata.opf files.

Hence a Restore database is unlikely to recover your lost tags.

Do you have a backup of your library? If so that's probably your best way to recover - providing its reasonably recent? Or do you have your library on a e-reader device?

I suggest you create a test library for experimenting with new features.
