Yes, my 20-year-old Swiss watch has a sapphire (aluminium oxide) crystal, and (unlike the rest of the watch) there's not a mark on it after 20 years of being worn. I can, in all honesty, however, say that it would never have occurred to me to refer to it as "transparent aluminium"
