You can change the horizontal margins by editing reader.pref, then rotate the screen view to horizontal. That should give you some vertical real estate:
Step 1 Return to the home page on the Kindle. If an e-book is open, the changes will not take effect.
Step 2 Connect the Kindle to your computer using the USB cable that came with the device. Windows assigns a drive to the Kindle after it installs the appropriate drivers.
Step 3 Press "Windows-X" on the computer and choose "File Explorer" from the Power User menu.
Step 4 Click the "View" tab in File Explorer and then check the "Hidden items" box in the "Show/Hide" group to view all hidden files. Important folders on your Kindle are hidden by default.
Step 5 Select the drive assigned by Windows to your Kindle and open the "system" folder. Open the "com.amazon.ebook.booklet.reader" folder and double-click the "reader.pref" file. If Windows doesn't know how to open the file, select a text editor such as Notepad from the list of available programs.
Step 6 Locate the "HORIZONTAL_MARGIN=" line and change the value of the setting. The default value is "40." To decrease the margins, lower the value -- a good starting point would be "15" or "20." If you change the value to "0," the text will be displayed too close to the bezel.
Step 7 Press "Ctrl-S" to save the changes, close Notepad and then disconnect the Kindle from the computer. Step 8 Press "Menu" on the Kindle, select "Settings," "Menu" and select "Restart" to restart the device. The changes take effect only after a restart."]
