I have been offered a 20% discount from PB for a new unit as there is no USA repair facility.

My question is as follows: Can I get a brief review of the i86 ML in reference to utilizing it only for e-reading purposes including the fact that I sideload the vast majority of my books.

I use the Prestigio ereader on both my tablet and smartphone along with occasionally using the Kindle ap.

While I hesitate to spend the $279.00 required for the i86, I also hesitate to invest an additional $172.00 for a second 840 not knowing what caused the substrate to crack.

I simply want an 8 inch screen on a unit that will produce a reasonably trouble free and positive reading experience. Also any problems with substrate cracking?

Thanks in advance for a limited use review of the i86 ML.
Come on, man, you can get all the info you need if you start reading from just 10 pages back.

Anyway, what exactly would you like to know ?

1. ePub experience - The i86 comes with four default apps; Onyx Reader, Onyx Neo Reader, Oreader (AlReader) and FBreader. Of course, since the i86 is an android tablet, you can install mostly any app you like. Here is a comparison video between the i86 and the the PB 840 in how both handle ePubs.

2. PDF/DJVU experience - Again, there are two dedicated readers that have all sort of options from cropping, zooming, text reflow to making everything bolder. I have found that Orion Viewer works very well on the i86 and here is a video which I made that shows that.

3. Frontlight - Those that purchased the device several months before me were unhappy with the uniformity of the frontlight. Some say that the frontlight on the PB 840 is better than the one of the i86. I got my device my a couple of weeks ago and all I can say is that the frontlight serves its purpose well without distraction.

4. Dictionary Support - If regularly check the meaning of words or you need to constantly translate, then you're going to have a tough time with the i86. All the default reading apps are hard wired to use Onyx Dict which is some form of Stardict. Needless to say much, it is horrible ! However, you can install any other dictionary app, but you'll still be unable to use it within any of the default reading apps. So, you'll have to install something like Moon Reader or CoolReader.

5. Build Quality - I think the PB 840 looks much nicer than the i86.

I also considered buying the PB 840 but decided against it as page turning appeared to be painfully slow and the appeal of open android on the i86 was too much to overcome. So, make up your mind !!
