Obviously you're not going to watch youtube on e-ink, but reading mainly text-based pages works fine. The essential innovation is to include an a2 non-flash refresh mode so the screen scrolls without flashing (like a tablet). I regularly browse on e-ink. The a2 mode was what it bearable. There is no reason I know of that the same technique couldn't be applied to the Kindle.
The goodereader site reported in June that the Voyage 2 would integrate this type of (purely software) innovation. *cough*
