I don't really think higher resolution will matter in your case. And carta sounds nice on paper but everybody is telling that differences are only visible if explored by comparing devices directly. AFAIK the Nook Simple Touch Glowlight is sometimes available at a very reasonable rate in the States. With some custom ROM and AlReader as reading app for nondrm epubs it will fullfill all the parameters for less than 40$. I bought mine for 35€ in Germany on ebay.
