I saved this as HTML:

I used an editor to strip out the archive.org script at the end. Then I loaded it into OOo's web editor, exported it to an ODT, then opened it in OOo's Writer.

I tried to run the autoformat on it, which was supposed to replace two dashes with an emdash, quotation marks with smart quotes, and so on.

But it didn't do that. All it did was the "remove blank paragraphs" thing.

What's going on here?
