When we finally looked at a Kindle in our local supermarket we purchased on the spot.

Sony eReader was sold on almost unused, Kindle hardly ever out of wife's hand, first basic Kindle, then PW1 followed by PW2 and now KV. Fab devices to read from and that's all that really counts in the end.
My first e-ink reader was the Kindle Keyboard. As I said I only played in the store with the original Sony ereader. In those days I was reading on a Palm Pilot, or one of the Palm models. I went through a number of them and I don't recall which I had when I saw that Sony.

Anyway I liked the Kindle Keyboard a lot but I was always clumsily hitting a button while I was reading and taking myself out of the book or popping something up to distract me. I had considered buying the original Kindle but it just looked way too clumsy to hold. The second one looked better but not good enough. I was glad to finally move to the Kindle 4 and then the Touch to get away from all those keys. It kind of reminded me of driving through an obstacle course.

Since then a friend has been given an original Kindle. I'd loaned him an old Paperwhite a few times and he thought this would be a good replacement. He had the same problem I had and I later gave him my old Kindle 4, which he likes a lot better.

I think they got the design right with the Touch. That was the first Kindle that really made sense. And since then they've been getting better and better. I read with a Voyage now and I hope they come out with a newer and better model but I don't really care if they don't. It's hard to imagine any important improvements.

I also have a Kobo Glo and a Kobo Aura and they're nearly as good. Of course the Voyage has far better features and specs but when you're reading those don't really matter. They're all great for reading. I do like the Voyage and use it most but I'd be happy if I was stuck with one of the others. I wouldn't be happy being stuck with an original Kindle. I'd probably go back to a Palm Pilot.
