What color for LED? I read an article claiming that even frontlights on today's eReader worsens sleeping cycles in some people, not sure if it's yet another scientific garbage or truth!?

But, I might go for 5 red LEDs. ?
Or should I stay with white LEDs?
Bluish white is supposed to keep your mind active, that's why it is usually used in offices, while yellowish white is supposed to calm down your mind.

Select white. The tone is up to your preference. I find yellowish more pleasant than bluish, but it a matter of personal taste and how sensitive are you to blue light.

Red won't be good choice.

On the other hand, and taking into account the light diffusion layer, I don't think how difficult would be to take a front-lit reader with broken substrate (these should be cheap as some brands do not offer screen spares), and take out the diffusion layer and the leds to transplant into the Mini.
