Edith Nesbit Bland, English author and poet, is best known for her innovative fantasy writing. She published over 40 childrens’ books, including such classics as The Railway Children and the Psammead trilogy. Later in her career she also wrote for adults, publishing several novels and numerous short stories.
Dormant: A romance wreathed in mystery and Weird Science; the Frankenstein motif interwoven with the Sleeping Beauty motif.
Rose believes she is in love with Anthony, Anthony thinks he loves Rose, and they become engaged. Will wishing make love real for them? The old bookseller, Mr. Abrahamson, reads Rose’s fortune, and sees a dark and puzzling outcome. Then Anthony inherits a title and an estate, and falls in love with a woman discovered in a deathlike trance in a secret chamber.
