I am revisiting an old friend in ePub format which I produced some years ago from a plain text source, and I am finding inconsistent behaviour in calibre's book reader. I guess it's probably some feature which didn't exist when I made the book but is now getting accidentally triggered.

Some links work as expected and simply jump to the referenced chapter/paragraph, but others cause the reader to display a new pane with the referenced target displayed as a footnote.

Any ideas on what might be going on and how to fix it would be welcome.
