I have worked in the industry a long time and the one thing I have learned if Apple or Microsoft or any other company provided everything that was needed for a device or computer there would be the ones to sue and say that the company was over stepping their bounds. So they do the basics and let third parties do the rest. I find that to be the best all around solution. Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Linux should provide the best OS possible and let the third party developers provide the applications, this in the over all scheme of things will lead to the best for the customers.
And I believe that all four of this companies make a product that is good for what they are. But I have found that Apple does better in the sense that the only create the OS for their own hardware so most of the time it just works better. Microsoft has to create for a world of hardware and it does a good job but never to its best. Google had done a reasonable job with android and for a while I said it was great but it just has not proven to be so. Linux is a great server solution but, and a good desktop as long as you do not have to work with third party providers like Microsoft does. So I say pick your poison. And now that I am retired I believe that I have found it with IOS and Linux.
