It isn't obvious to me how to do this correctly. The "sync books" option currently (and has for a long time) requires that the "wireless device" option be enabled. Having it separately controllable gets me into something like tri-state options or lists.

Perhaps the right way to do this is to treat "Sync books" as its own connection type. In that case both WD options would enable the WD settings but would be independent as far as the menu is concerned. Something like:

Wireless device connection []
WD connection with sync    []
with appropriate summary text.

The text is abbreviated because Android does not wrap captions for check box options, instead ellipsizing them (...). On phones like my N5 the caption "Wireless device connection" is within 4 characters of being too long.

Hmmm... possibly I could do it as

Syncing updated books []
