Artist should be the specific cast member/artist, and Album Artist Various Artists or something like Guys and Dolls Broadway Cast.

NOTE: iOS devices no longer display Various Artists in the Artists view in the Music app.

And then you want to make sure your track and disc numbers are set properly.

If you've never had that problem before... iTunes did play an album backwards in last view the other day for me, so there could be a few bugs.
