There aren't any kids on this block anyway, and I'd just as soon not have the candy in the house.
Keemun sounds like a good idea. I'll fix a pot of Lion Mountain Keemun to get me going today.

Pu Erh this morning.
We have three pumpkins. One with snickers and the like, one with Mike and Ikes and Sour Patch Kids (gluten free/nut free) and one with bubbles, crayons, erasers, and super balls. There is nothing wrong with offering choices.
Clearly something has changed because allergies are on the rise. Kids with allergies find themselves in the hospital or dead if they ingest the allergen and it sucks for them that something like Halloween is hard for them to do. They are kids and want to wear a costume and go trick or treating.
I want my friends whose son is deathly allergic to nuts to be able to have fun. He has been hospitalized after a reaction to one peanut.
It is not that expensive to buy another pumpkin and filling it with candy that is safe for them kids with nut allergies or gluten problems. There are kids who have diabetes and cannot eat Halloween candy. It is not expensive to buy another pumpkin and put some toys in it.
We will hang up the Teal Pumpkin sign and plant a teal pumpkin at the end of the driveway so that parents know that there is a safe option. I hope that my little man never has to deal with these type of issues but if he does need some type of accommodation at some point in time in his life, I would hope that other people would be accepting of that and take the little extra steps that help him to participate in normal activities.
I do think it is an over reaction to a few problems to not accept apples and oranges as Halloween treats. As a kid we avoided those houses because, well, snickers taste better and my Mom already had a ton of fruit in the house. (grins)
