e-Ink screens do not change unless the device changes them. If the device is off, whatever is on the screen stays there until it is turned on again. In this case, it sounds like the device hung when you plugged it into a computer.

No, the pin-hole just forces a restart if the device is hung. But, if it is off, it doesn't do anything. My guess would be that the device has hung or crashed and the battery has run out. Plug it in, charge it for at least an hour and try to turn it on. And it is quite possible that it will start of its own accord a few minutes after being plugged in.

If it doesn't start, then do a factory reset by:

- Charging for at least an hour.
- Hold the power button in the off position for 20 seconds.
- Hold the light button down and turn the device on.
- When the LED at the top starts flashing, release the light button.

You should then see the screen change to say it is restoring the system and restarting.

If this doesn't work, try again but wait a bit longer at each step..
