I have both an iPad Mini and a full-size iPad Air 2. Where the Air shines is in reading page-scanned PDFs (which I read a lot of) and magazines. For most other things, the Mini is just as good and is of course a lot more portable.
If I had to keep only one, though, it would be the Air 2, because it's such a great PDF reader.
