So now I have an easy to remove magnet via the velcro and I just remove the magnet at the end of the day to power down the Paperwhite, and put it back on to shut off the front light completely. It looks like it will work. I could not do anything but reset the Paperwhite with the power button with the magnet on, but with it off the Paperwhite appears to power down. With the magnet removed when I push in the button for two light flashes it gives me the option to shut off the screen and then I can. I just leave the velcro-magnet attached but slightly off to the side. Then I turn the Paperwhite back on and move the magnet back into place to shut off the light. Yay!
Your running a different (newer) firmware version than I am.

(I live in a no-WiFi zone - none of mine update unless I side load the update package.)
