The reason fewer people choose Amazon-branded covers are because many people find them expensive - especially the leather origami case. I've seen used voyages on ebay with an asking price similar to that of the origami leather case.
I've got the origami leather case, myself, and some cheap ones. As far as usability....I honestly can't stand the origami case. I find the device falls out of it if you drop it with the cover open. Props to Amazon for making the screen cover VERY thick, though. It provides
very good protection - if you drop it with the cover closed. Regarding the "standing" feature of the case...I detest it. I read in bed and on the go. Even when I sit down to read, I feel more immersed if I hold the Kindle in my hands, because I love using the page-turn sensors much much more than I like tapping on the screen. Sometimes I read during lunch, but I find it impractical to have the origami case on it when I do because adds far too much weight, and I've got absolutely no problem with laying the device flat on the table. To me, $85 (because it is the limited edition leather version) is not a justifiable expense. But analyze your priorities.
The question of durability is a difficult one, perhaps because I expect things to last a lot longer than they should. I believe a good case should last three+ years, and given that the KV has only been out for about a year now, there's not much to say here.
I used it for a good 6 months before I purchased the Swees case after realizing how much I
hate the flip-over-the-top action of the Origami case. I have to say, though that the origami case
seems to be plenty durable. A few months of rough tumbling around in my laptop/messenger bag, and there is still not a scratch on it, nor is it worn whatsoever. I did care for it meticulously. You have to treat your leather to a good cleaning/moisturizing every three months to maintain that nice dead-cow-shine

because the oils on your skin wreak havoc on it otherwise...or maybe that's just
my skin.

Any leather cleaner/moisturizer will do.
Another issue I have with the origami case is that is it very heavy. And I mean
very heavy. I haven't weighed it, but I'd venture to say it weighs nearly as much as the kv itself. If you're going to read with it propped up on a table, then by all means, this point doesn't apply. But if you like to actually hold your kindle, it gets fairly tiring after 20 minutes or so. Having the Kindle stand by itself seems to me like nothing more than a gimmick. When was the last time you pulled out a book easel to read some Charles Dickens? Same logic here. Different strokes for different folks.
Nonetheless, I find that it makes the KV look NICE

when closed and protects it adequately. If that is what you need, you don't mind everything I've mentioned, and you're willing to spend $60-85 on it, then by all means that is the case for you.
I personally love my swees case now. It was ridiculous how cheap it was at about $10. I find this thing fantastic honestly. I know Amazon doesn't offer a book-style case for the kv (shame on them!), but if the $50 amazon-branded pw2 case I have is anything to go by, this is the exact same quality at 1/10th the price (save for the synthetic leather, which is of surprisingly decent quality

Here's a video review:
Sorry for the long post. I tend to get carried away so:
tl;dr I don't like the origami cover, but you might. If I could do it over again, I'd skip the Amazon's price-gouging and buy a $10 Swees or Fintie cover and get it over with. Durability is not an issue with either one.
Hope this helps,
Dan
