I did not buy my Kindle for the Kindle Unlimited program, but most of what I read now on my Kindle are Kindle Unlimited books. So, yes I would buy a Kindle e-reader for Kindle Unlimited. In particular, because there are no really good e-reader options for scribd another library type reading service.

However, if you are the type of person who enjoys a handful of authors and that's all you are interested in reading then I would be wary. Kindle Unlimited is populated mostly with independent writers and writers from smaller publishing companies. I have no problem at all finding books I want to read and normally have about 20 in a wish list besides the books on my Kindle. So I always have a fresh list of books I have not read on my Kindle.

I am not sure what your concern is with the ten book limitation. As soon as I complete a book I return it and replace it with another book from my wish list. There is no means I know of to copy to a hard disk, but then I've never tried it not seeing any reason to.

Hope that is helpful
