Are you using calibre for the conversion? If so, this question probably belongs in the calibre/conversion forum.
Also - if this is calibre - look at your output profile in the conversion settings. Large images are scaled down to the screen size of this device. If you set the device here to "Tablet", calibre won't do this and will retain the input image size.
