I'm still a SONY fan.

I found this thread because I just ordered a PRS-T3S from Japan via ebay and I was looking around for info while I waited for Mr. Postman. It was kind of an impulse buy, since I'm perfectly happy with my little 350. In fact I have two 350s because I'm paranoid about ever finding another perfect e-reader again. Got the second one cheap on craigslist when everybody was switching to iPhone. Doh.

I go back 5 or 6 years to the PRS-600, their first touch-screen reader, a big heavy device with a dull grey-green screen that was extremely glare-y. It was ok, and I was the first kid on the block to have an e-reader. But after that, the 350 was heaven. It's in my knapsack or briefcase everyday everywhere I go.

So the T3S arrived a week ago and I am quite pleased with it. The size and weight are great, and the build seems sturdy. The screen is about the same as the 350 for brightness and clarity, but the Android system is much faster than the old system. Page turns, book changes, everything is faster. Don't know about battery life yet, it just displays a full battery icon all the time. I guess it lasts a while.

The 350 had Oxford English and Oxford American dictionaries; the T3 has only American. The 350 also had two-way dictionaries of French, Spanish, German, Italian and Dutch languages. The T3 lacks European languages, but has a great Japanese dic.

Perhaps because it is a Japanese firmware, the T3 is good at displaying complex two-byte character sets. I am able to read Thai characters for the first time, and of course CJK.

I really miss PRS-plus! That was a great project and I wish it would continue for the newer Android devices.

My bias is that I am a simple book purist who only wants to read black and white text. I don't care about the ecosystem and the wifi and the social networks. And I don't read in the dark. So yeah, I'm happy with my Sony devices.
