Netflix's price increases probably have less to do with costs of their own shows and more to do with the ever-increasing licensing costs for other shows. One of the big reasons Netflix moved to producing their own stuff was to avoid the ratchet that the big movie/TV companies have been applying continuously. Basically once Netflix became successful, Hollywood decided they needed to bleed it to death. Which is normal for them (this is why Hulu sucks so badly nowadays too).

I think Hollywood believes we should all be happy to pay $90 a month for something like Netflix with 99% of the money going to Hollywood.

Amazon's price increase was probably less about the content and the fact that shipping has gone up since they first introduced it. The prices for TV/movies didn't help any however.
