BTW,
Inkscape has a nice built-in
Unicode Glyphs menu.
If you prefer keyboard input, you could enter Unicode characters via the CTRL+U toggle.
For example, if you wanted to enter
Noël, you'd type
No, press CTRL+U, type EB, press space followed by CTRL+U and type
l.
You could, of course, also select the character directly from the Glyphs dialog box.
