If you have both the ebook and companion audiobook, you can use the Kindle app to both read and or listen ('immersion reading' as Amazon terms it). You still need the Audible app if you don't have an ebook that goes with the audiobook.

While they could make Kindle a full-feature audible player, so you could just have one app instead of two (I'd probably prefer that myself), I think they'd still need to maintain an Audible-only app for the foreseeable future. And I'd prefer they fix a few other things before doing anything like that.
